JA IK WIL

Exhibition Ja, Ik Wil! presents a comprehensive overview of the wedding dress—an iconic garment with a rich history spanning centuries. The wedding dress serves as a mirror of the bride’s world, reflecting trends in fashion, societal values, personal taste, and social status. Through personal stories of brides, the exhibition traces the evolution of the wedding dress and, in turn, the changing role of women in Dutch society. In Ja, Ik Wil! visitors explore around 60 wedding dresses, from an 18th-century bridal gown from 1782 to contemporary designs by renowned designers. The diversity of dresses not only highlights the shifts in fashion but also offers insights into social themes such as individuality, emancipation, and gender equality. One gallery has been transformed into a studio space, where designer Claes Iversen provides a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process behind crafting wedding dresses.
