Fashion has been going back and forth between hiding and revealing for centuries. What is allowed in fashion today, was not allowed yesterday and vice versa. What triggers this pendulum movement and how do designers then and now deal with it? When is the showing or the hiding of the body acceptable? Who or what determines this?

In the exhibition DressUndress in Modemuseum Hasselt, there are silhouettes from the late eighteenth century to today. Designs by Vivienne Westwood, Olivier Theyskens, Walter Van Beirendonck, Schiaparelli, Raf Simons, Pieter Mulier for Alaïa, Comme des Garçons, Helmut Lang, Thierry Mugler, Ann Demeulemeester, Versace, Maison Margiela, Jean Paul Gaultier show in the exhibition how designers have manipulated the body through clothing in recent decades.

Dress Undress opened on February 26th and will be on display until November 20th 2022 at Modemuseum Hasselt, Belgium.
