Alkestis
ALKESTIS
Directed by Julie Van den Berghe
Costume design by MAISON the FAUX
The play is based on Greek poet Euripides’ mythical story in which life, death and love are three major aspects. Euripides’ tragedy was translated and edited by the English writer Ted Hughes. His "Alcestis" is influenced by Hughes’ personal life. Combining Euripides story with Hughes’ personal interpretation, Alkestis forms a theater play in which dream and reality come together.
For the costume design MAISON the FAUX worked together closely with Julie Van den Berghe and her team. A project in which the creative minds of MAISON the FAUX, Julie Van den Berghe and her creative team came together and resulted in a well received spectacle.
It is not the first time MAISON the FAUX cooperated with Julie Van den Berghe. The Belgian director has previously given her theatrical interpretation on one of MAISON the FAUX’s collection presentations and in 2016 MAISON the FAUX and Julie Van den Berghe worked together for the play ‘Master and Margarita’, in which MAISON the FAUX was responsible for the costume design. From January 2017, Julie Van den Berghe will take over as the artistic director of Noord Nederlands Toneel Theatre Groningen.
“Alkestis” premiered on the 9th of December 2016 at Schauspiel Frankfurt under the direction of Julie Van den Berghe, and was in theaters until the 27th of February 2017.
